TOUR OF THE MARKET RASEN PRACTICE

A view of Rase Veterinary Centre.

Rase Veterinary Centre has been at its current location in Market Rasen for 10 years. There is ample car parking for customers. The practice has in total 11 vets and nearly 30 members of staff. The practice deals with all types of clients ranging from cattle and horses to rabbits and chinchillas.

There are in total seven loose boxes at Rase Veterinary Centre. The stables are located to the rear of the practice, adjacent to a small area of grazing. The equine department has two full time members of staff, one of whom is an equine therapist.

We have a dedicated reception area where you will find informative displays on pet health care. We regularly have free magazines and samples of dog and cat food. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to ask our reception staff. Reception duties are performed for the most part by Sharon Duke, Vicki, Vicky, and Sarah Ball assisted when under pressure, by our nurses and kennel staff

The practice has three main wards for the in-patients. The wards each contain a number of cages/kennels of varying sizes. The substantial number of kennels are made from stainless steel. This ensures the kennels are easy to clean, and so helps to maintain a hygienic and comfortable environment for all our patients. All the wards have heating and air conditioning is available if required.

We have three small animal consultation / examination rooms. A refrigerator is installed in each in order to ensure that vaccines are kept at the correct temperature prior to use. A separate consulting room is available for euthanasias and for our nurse clinics. The consultation rooms are used for examining and treating patients. Most consultations are booked for ten minute sessions. This time can be extended if we find it necessary to do so for more detailed examinations to be performed. Our rooms are equipped to be able to give your pet the highest standard of care possible.

The laboratory is one of the most important rooms for establishing a diagnosis. Within minutes we can have the results of a blood or urine test; and armed with these results we are able to understand better what is happening internally and use the results to obtain a diagnosis. Without this facility we would have to send the samples to an external laboratory, which could make for several days delay reaching a diagnosis.

This is where we carry out sterile surgical procedures such as neutering. A hygienic environment is maintained to reduce the risk of infection. There is a minimum of equipment and working surfaces here so that the area can be easily cleaned to a high standard between operations. The hydraulic operating table, and most of the anaesthetic equipment is of stainless steel; and the anaesthetic monitoring equipment is mounted on a stainless steel stand.

The equine operating table arrived in august 2004 from Finland. It is used by our veterinary surgeons for our more serious equine operations such as colic cases. The table itself is all electronically operated that can tilt and manoeuvre to accommodate all types and sizes of horse. And it is inflatable and well padded, so that during operations horses are comfortable.

The equine operating theatre has all state of the art equipment to ensure the veterinary surgeons can do their best to aide clients horses' recovery. Not only does the theatre include our new equine operating table but also ECG, anaesthetic and respiration machines too.

Our dispensary is very similar to a local chemist. Here we stock the majority of our drugs, ointments and other types of medication. The main benefit of having a dispensary is that it saves you time and effort of going to your nearest chemist, it is far more convenient to purchase the medication straight after the consultation.

We need X-rays or radiographs (radiographs are the result of the X rays exposing the photographic film) to help diagnose a variety of problems. We can look at bone structure and internal organs; we may also be able to see foreign bodies such as stones in the intestine, or even airgun pellets. The procedure is quick and painless, however most pets will need sedation or anaesthesia in order to ensure that we obtain the best possible pictures. The X-ray (or should we say, piece of exposed photographic film) is then taken to the dark room or an automatic processor for developing. The X-ray can be viewed on a backlit screen to hopefully allow a diagnosis to be made.
