Introducing The Rase Veterinary Centre’s  Healthy Horse Scheme.

We are offering to you a health plan for your horses which we feel will both improve the health of your horses, and also save you money.

The  Healthy Horse Scheme is intended to spread  the cost of routine healthcare for your horse; and provide regular check ups, routine treatment and a few added extras.

The Healthy Horse Scheme does not cover the cost of visits, but all the routine work involved can be performed at our surgery without a visit charge.

The  Healthy Horse Scheme does not cover the cost of non-routine or emergency treatment. The charges for emergency treatment or injury are best covered by your insurance. The Healthy Horse Scheme is intended to pay for the veterinary work not covered by your horse insurance.

The Healthy Horse Scheme is financed by a monthly standing order mandate set up with your bank.  The charge is £20.00 per month for each individual  horse registered on the scheme; and this charge is fixed at least until Jan 2006.

Services Treatments and Benefits of Healthy Horse Scheme

Vaccination against Equine Influenza & Herpes
A course of two vaccinations about six weeks apart to commence the routine, and then  revaccination  every six months.

Twice yearly vaccination with, for example Equilis Resequin, makes it more difficult for the equine ‘flu vacccination  to become out of date and so  need restarting. The vaccination programme also includes vaccination against some strains of Equine Herpes Virus (strains 1 &4).   This vaccine will give protection against the respiratory form of Equine Herpes, a viral infection which is  an increasing problem.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - 1st vaccination £32.90, 2nd vaccination £32.90

Vaccination  against Tetanus every two years
Horses still get tetanus. Some survive but only after expensive treatment. With the recommendations for vaccinating against tetanus changing to two year boosters, it is now easier to miss a vaccination. Hopefully our reminder system will ensure that this does not happen.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - Tet. Booster £17.63

Worm Control Programme involving the use of worm egg counts and provision of appropriate seasonal worm treatments.   Worm egg counts and worm treatments to be used together in an attempt to both reduce chemical usage and reduce the chances of anthelmintic resistance.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - Worm Egg Counts = £9.99

Insured horses will receive free stabling and keep at our surgery if hospitalisation is necessary.   Sometimes it is necessary for horses to be kept at the surgery for observation, or daily injections or poulticing, and not every insurance policy covers this.

Insurance Claim Forms will be completed free of charge by our accounts department. This procedure can be very time consuming and sometimes we have to charge; especially if an insurance company wishes to query previous treatments and enter into prolonged correspondence.

Insurance Claim Excesses: refunds, to a maximum of £50. 00.  In the case of large insurance claims, where  treatment has been extensive, we will  credit your account with a £50. 00 contribution  towards your  insurance excess, after the claim has been settled.

Routine Dental Check and Rasping every six months.  Some horses’ teeth require less attention than others, but we will check and perform a simple rasp/float if necessary twice per year and include sedation if necessary.

This will enable us to identify those horses which require more extensive rotary rasping or grinding, preferably done at the surgery.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - Rasping £16.45, Sedation c£23.50

Routine Health Check twice yearly at vaccination / rasping. An opportunity to check your horses’ health and for you to ask advice.

Routine Blood Test either annually or at one of the routine vaccinations.      Includes taking the blood and an in-house routine blood count and a full routine biochemical examination on a single occasion each year. This may help identify reasons for poor condition and /or  ‘ragwort poisoning’ cases much earlier. There will be charges for samples sent for non-routine tests.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - Blood Sample £18.80, Biochemistry £45.83

Routine Tapeworm Blood Test: will be performed once per year.   Tapeworm infestations are an increasing problem; and there is no other way of assessing whether they are affecting your horse.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - Blood Sample £18.80, plus Lab Fees

Out of Hours Surcharges are avoided by horses enrolled in our Healthy Horse Scheme.   No additional charges on top of the standard fees (no out of hours surcharges) will be applied to accounts for emergency call-outs at nights or weekends.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - Variable

Telephone advice, based on years of experience, is free from our equine vets. A problem shared is a problem halved; and we are always there to offer advice.

Usual fee (inc. VAT) - Microchip £15.00, Passport c£17.00 or both done together for a combined total of £28.00.
